Claudette’s Heart-Healthy Apple Cinnamon Dog Treats

Claudette loves treats as much as the next pup, so when I asked her to help me do some baking, she jumped at the chance. Claudette’s apple cinnamon dog treats are a healthy, delicious snack perfect for your pup to enjoy anytime of day. We especially like giving these to Claudette in the evening before bed. The vet suggested that she have a little late night snack to keep stomach acid at bay so that she wakes up hungry for breakfast. So, check out Claudette and me on YouTube… she provided sous chef skills and companionship while we whipped up a batch of these heart-healthy cookies: they are a huge hit with her taste buds!

Makes 2 dozen

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups oats, blended into a powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup organic apple sauce
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil, melted

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350F, line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Whisk the oat flour, cinnamon, turmeric and baking powder together in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk the apple sauce, eggs and vanilla together. Pour wet mixture into the dry and stir until combined, fold in coconut oil. Using a small scoop, scoop the dough onto the cookie sheets an inch apart, wet your fingertips and press the dough to flatten it, bake for 20 minutes or until slightly golden. Let the cookies cool completely then store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can freeze some as well to make them last longer.
