Homemade Croutons

I went through a phase a few years back where I was in search of the best Caesar salad. I ordered one very single time we went out for dinner. The first thing I would do when my salad was placed in front of me was push the stale, store bought croutons out of the way. I am really not a fan. One time my salad came out with big golden, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside homemade croutons, and things were never the same. From that day forward, I have been making my own croutons. Homemade croutons are so easy to make and they will take your salads to another level. With just three simple ingredients, you’ll have delicious croutons for your salads…or just to eat as is.
Ingredients:
- 6 cups, (1-inch) diced rustic bread
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- Kosher salt
- Fresh black pepper (optional)
Directions:
Heat the olive oil in a sauté pan over medium heat, toss the cubed bread in and stir to coat with the olive oil, season with salt (and pepper if using) and cook for 5-10 minutes, stirring frequently until golden. cool completely and store in an airtight container until ready to use.

I know we’re not really going to dinner parties and gatherings right now, but when the time comes again for get-togethers, these homemade croutons make a perfect hostess gift. A bottle of wine and flowers are always great, but what a nice surprise it would be to receive a bag of golden croutons tied with beautiful ribbon. Or what about homemade croutons and homemade vinaigrette in a cute jar? I can’t wait for dinner parties again! I miss entertaining so much.
